Royal Artillery Win Five Goal Thriller

Royal Artillery win Edwards Cup defeating REME 3-2 in thrilling match at Cirencester Town FC

Royal Artillery win Edwards Cup defeating REME 3-2 in thrilling match at Cirencester Town FC.

Congratulations to the Royal Artillery on winning the 2024 Edwards Cup Final versus REME 3-2 in a thrilling match at the excellent venue at Cirencester Town FC.

Halle Turrell opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute to give REME the lead but unfortunately injured herself in the process and had to be replaced.

The Gunners responded midway through the first half when captain Anna Birtwhistle levelled directly from a corner.

Jemma Dinning put REME back in front on 68 minutes before a close range effort from Player of the Match Maddy Wood put the tie all square two minutes later.

However, the best was left to last as with eight minutes remaining Birtwhistle netted the winner and a brace for herself with a long range effort into the top far corner.

Thank you to Women’s Corps sponsor F5 and Grant Martin for their superb, continued support of Army Football and to Vice President Darren Crook for hosting the post match presentations to the players and officials.

Our thanks also go to Cirencester Town FC for being wonderful hosts again. We will be back next season.
