2023 Inter-Services Round-Up

The 2023 Inter Services provided four competitive tournaments played at various venues throughout the country.

The 2023 Inter Services provided four competitive tournaments played at various venues throughout the country. This was also the first season that a Masters Competition was recognised for serving personnel over 35 years of age. In its inaugural season it was fitting that the Army were the winners with the introduction of the Major Billy Thompson BEM Trophy. Billy retired as Secretary of the Army FA last year after 21 years’ service. After a close fought 4-3 victory for the Army in Aldershot the decider was held in Oswestry where the Army held on to win 3-2 and lift the trophy.

Army FA Vice President and DCGS, Lt General Sharon Nesmith, witnessed a convincing 3-0 victory versus Royal Navy at Aldershot Town Football Club with an excellent first half performance in the 2023 opener. However the Army just fell short in the final match of the Men’s Constantinople Cup where the RAF won a superbly fought match 2-1 at Shrewsbury Town and retained the title.

The RAF were also deserved winners of the Women’s Williamson Trophy with a strong performance versus the Army culminating in a 4-1 success at Leek Town FC. The RAF had already beaten the Royal Navy 3-0 in their opener at Victory Stadium, Portsmouth. This concluded a disappointing tournament for the Army Women who also lost 5-2 at Aldershot Town versus Royal Navy.

The Under 23 competition saw the Royal Navy successful in lifting the Inter Service crown with a final match 2-1 success v the Army in Portsmouth. The Army entered the match requiring a point after a 3-0 victory v RAF in their opener at the Aldershot Military Stadium.

We were grateful for the attendance of our sponsors at all Inter Service matches including representatives from our main representative team sponsor Fujitsu. We also extend our appreciation to Aldershot Town FC for hosting two Inter Service matches this season.
