VACANCY - CHAIR ARMY FOOTBALL

There will be a vacancy for the voluntary role of Chair of the Army Football Association in early 2023.

Football in the Army is The Soldiers’ Game, the most participatory sport in the Army, both men and women, regular and reserve. The role of the Chair is to promote Football across the Army at all levels (unit to representative, all ranks, all ages and all genders) and in all forms of the games. The President is CGS, with a number of 3* and 2* Vice-Presidents, including the Army Sergeant Major.

Army Football is a Charitable Trust, and our main tasks are:
• Be the best run Army sport’s body.
• Maintain male participation in a reducing Army.
• Grow female participation.
• Provide the type of football which builds teamwork, self-discipline, mental and physical fitness in our Soldiers.
• Deliver sufficient quality and quantity of Facilities, Referees, Coaches and Volunteers to effectively run Army Football.
• Offer support to other FA Counties and support FA targets and initiatives.
• Ensure Football is a seen as a highly effective community and Defence Engagement tool.

Army Football is looking for a committed individual who has the necessary experience to support the Association; they need to be dynamic and motivated with a passion for football. This voluntary role takes up on average ½ a day per week and can peak to 2 days per week at the height of the season.

The Chair has overall control of the charity and would benefit from financial and charitable experience to enable them to use their skills to support the charity and help them achieve their aims and objectives. The role of the Chair is significant and varied. The Chair must be able to inspire confidence and be able to lead a largely military Board of Trustees with integrity and vision.

The Chair reports to the charitable Board of Trustees and is responsible for the Management Board. The Chair will chair Committee meetings, direct the Vice-Chair and Secretary to produce the agendas, head the Committee in making decisions for the benefit of Football in the Army, and strategic planning. They also have responsibility for financial planning and securing sponsorship.

They will be required to attend fixtures, deal directly with sponsors, and host an annual Awards Dinner. The Army FA has strong links with the two governing bodies, the Army Sports Control Board, and the FA, as football’s national governing body. The Chair needs to find the right balance between being the Chair of an Army Sport and the Chair of one of the FA’s 50 counties. During their tenure the Chair will be an Honorary Vice President of the Football Association (FA) and on occasions be required to attend Chair support days.
