Howard Webb Attends Referees Dinner
Approaching 70 people attended the function which is held to conclude two days of a referees gathering which also includes the RAFA Training Day which was held in Aldershot earlier in the day conducted by Chief Instructor WO2 Andy Halliday.
Webb spoke superbly leaving those in attendance in fits of laughter at the dinner and he also presented a number of Referees with awards to commemorate their service in 2014/15 or, indeed, to recognise lifetime achievements for Referees soon to leave the service.
The Dobsons Trophy winner was was awarded to WO1 (RSM) Mark Hounsell. This is the award made to the referee considered to have made the most significant contribution to Army Football during the season about to attend. It has been in existence since 1989 when it was donated by Major Alan Dobson on his retirement as Army FA Secretary.
The Le Breton Trophy was donated by Mr Brian Le Breton in 2007; Brian was the Assistant Secretary and Referees Secretary for 21 years. The criteria for the award is fo rthe LEvel 7 Referee who has shown the most potential and commitment during the year. The winner was WO2 Wayne Perrin.
Presentations were also made to WO1 Steve Finch and Lt Col John Roskelly in recognition to many years of loyal service the Army FA Refereeing; both are soon to leave the service.
For the first time too Army Caps were presented. This is for Referees who have completed one representative match after being promoted to the Army Select List. Recipients for the first batch of presentations (there will be more to follow) were Lt Col Roskelly, WO1 Finch, WO2 Halliday and SSgt Declan Ford.
