Players and People

The Army Football Association (Army FA) has two mutually supporting and interwoven aims; first, to be a highly respected County supporting the Football Association (FA) achieve its National Strategy; and, second, to be the most effectively run, thriving Army Sport, enhancing the Army’s reputation nationally.

Football is “The Soldier’s Game” with an estimated 10,000 soldiers, over 10% of the Army, participating weekly. In 2013/14 563 unit teams affiliated, spread across the whole of the UK, Germany and Cyprus. Our Army Challenge Cups attracted over 122 unit entries, more than any other Army Sport equivalent, with the finals played in a Festival of Football at our own home stadium in Aldershot. In addition we have 177 qualified match officials, serving 14 leagues, and a total of 400 qualified coaches at varying levels of the game. These coaches and officials run football in the Army and are also heavily involved in their local communities supporting other FA Counties.
