British Army Super Cup Final 2018

1 YORKS Victory

History was made on 8 Sept 18 when the British Army Super Cup, between the winners of the annual Reserve and Regular Challenge Cups was played in Tallinn, Estonia.

The game was professionally live streamed receiving over 8000 views on the evening of the game, with a sizeable crowd in attendance including many locals.

The game was a close affair, played in the right spirit however a physical affair with both teams having periods of the game they commanded.  1 YORKS took an early lead with excellent move and nice finish from close, 152 Regiment RLC had to be resilient for the first quarter onslaught however the game turned in the latter stages of the first half with the Reservists taking charge equalising with a splendid strike.

The game to and fro throughout the second half, a contest that either team could have won, but a well taken late strike by 1 YORKS won them the cup in the last ten minutes.  This was an excellent showcase of Army football that both teams would have been proud of.  To note LCpl Stuart McGowan in the 152 goal was named player of the match for some outstanding saves, including a penalty stop.

Major General Stuart Skeates SJFC, Army FA Vice President who was the senior officer in attendance, was highly complementary about the occasion and on its wider impact.
