Although his playing career was shortened due to a snapped cruciate ligament at the age of 22 Richie has been heavily involved within the coaching and administrative structure of Army Football and been involved within the representative set up since 2002; his current role being as General Manager of the Army Men’s team.

Richie also made a huge contribution to Royal Signals football where during his eight years as coach and manager the corps won six league and Quadrangular tournaments. He also coached the successful 3 Divisional Signal Regiment in 2007. In more recent times he was also Tour Manager of the Army Veterans Team who won the Gold Medal at the 2017 World Masters’ Games in New Zealand.

Awarded the Member of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours list Richie said at the time, “I feel humbled by this award, particularly as being involved with Army, Royal Signals and Regimental level football has been an honour, a privilege and deeply rewarding in itself over the last three decades.”
