Referee Promotions

The Army FA are delighted to announce that further Referees have been promoted after receiving notification from the Football Association.

Promoted to Level 3 (Contributory Leagues) are:

WO1 (SMI) Rob Finn (RE)

WO1 Ash Allen (RAPTC)

LCoH Ben Duffill (RAC)

Promoted to Level 4 (Supply Leagues) are:

SSgt Steve Tymms (AAC)

Cpl Dickie Doorbar (AGC)

Tpr Mark McGowan (RTR)

Rob Finn and Ben Duffill progressed through the Army FA course in Deepcut in 2012. Ash Allen was the Army Challenge Cup Final Referee in 2018, won by 1 Bn The Yorkshire Regiment.

In addition to the above successful candidates we are also delighted to learn that Aaron Conn has been promoted to L3 through the Kent FA. Aaron, whose Dad Pete is a former Army FA Referees Chairman and a fellow L3 official, started his refereeing career with the Army FA coming through a basic course held in Herford, Germany and was developed and supported for many years through the Army FA system.

Steve Tymms’ promotion concludes a terrific month for the 34 year old who was the recipient of the most prestigious award in the Army FA Referees’ calendar - The Dobson Trophy, earlier this month. Dickie Doorbar also came through the Army system at a course in 2012 whilst 24 year old Mark McGowan has progressed to L4 in his second season as an Army FA official.

A delighted Referees’ Chairman Lt Col Gary Connolly said: "This rounds off an excellent season for Army referees despite the early end to the football season. To have a further six referees promoted to both level 3 and 4 demonstrates the outstanding levels of performance which are being displayed by Army FA match officials; these promotions are managed centrally by the Football Association central office. The referee community look forward to supporting the ‘Soldiers Game’ when the time is right and safe to return to football. Congratulations and well done to all six referees."
