Army Masters v Man City

Army Masters V Manchester City Veterans

The Army Masters team started the preparation for the 2020 Inter Services with a fixture against a Manchester City Military Vets football team

The game organised by Pete Carruthers at Moving Forces took place at the Belle Vue Speedway Stadium in Manchester under the floodlights.

The Army Masters team started the game well and kept the ball in good areas creating a few early chances on goal. It wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken when WO2 Gary Adamson RLC finished well after a precision pass from Cpl Rob Storrie RE. The flood gates opened and the Masters side found their shooting boots, another goal from Adamson and a well taken goal from Capt Matt Spruce RAMC made the score 3-0 with 20 minutes gone.

 WO2 Adamson RLC

Man City played out from the back but were given no time on the ball as the Army side pressed high up the pitch. Further Goals in the first half from WO2 Alfie Lightfoot RA, LCpl Jay Bates RS and WO2 Glen Davidson RMP saw the Army team 6-0 at the break. The second half saw the Masters team run riot scoring a further 7 goals shared throughout the team. Manchester City played well throughout, but the gulf in quality was obvious. They did grab a consolation goal with a well taken shot from 25 yards out catching Maj Gavin Smythe RA in no mans land as the ball looped over his head. The game finished 13-1, but the match was a great spectacle bringing together Military Veterans and serving soldiers and officers together on the field of play.
