The Army FA has great pleasure in announcing that WO2 Paul Hughes and Sgt Gerwyn Griffiths have been appointed Joint Head Coaches of the Army Under 23 Development Squad from the commencement of the 2018/19 season.

The appointment will be for two seasons, extendable for a further season by mutual agreement. 

Trustee Colonel Andy Phillips stated "We were all extremely impressed by the vision for the team and combined knowledge, skill and experience provided which made for a formidable pairing." 

It was also recorded that the calibre of all the candidates who attended the interviews held on Thursday at the Army FA headquarters in Aldershot was of an extremely high standard.

WO2 Hughes is based in Bristol with 7 MI Bn and is also an Academy Youth Development Phase Coach at Bristol City. An extensive involvement in football has also seen him serve as the Academy Head of Coaching at Bristol Rovers. An affiliate FA Tutor and Coach Educator he has also coached the Army Mens Reserve team and he is currently Head Coach of the Womens Reserve team. 

 Sgt Griffiths is currently the Army FA Performance Analyst for the mens representative squad. An FA Coach mentor and UEFA B candidate he has also served as a player for the Army in addition to many years with his corps, Royal Engineers, with whom he won the Woolwich Cup Final with last season.

Current Head Coach Capt Paul Dale steps down after this seasons Under 23 Inter Services as he is leaving the Army. The competition commences in Portsmouth on Wednesday 7th February versus Royal Navy with the home match versus RAF to be played at the Aldershot Military Stadium on Wednesday 21st February, both at 1400hrs. WO2 Hughes and Sgt Griffiths will be able to observe the competition prior to commencing their new roles.
