The Army Development squad is pooled from players who have not reached the age of 23 years before midnight on the 31 August/1 September at the start of the current season.

Trials are held at the outset of each season in Aldershot with two trial fixtures held during the week from players selected by the management squad or recommended by the respective corps.

Fixtures are arranged during the season with a balance of academy and Step 3 or 4 opposition. The concentration is focused to the annual Inter Services Tournament that is held in February of each year with the RAF and Royal Navy.
