Board Of Trustee Appointment

There has been a recent change within the Army Football Association Board of Trustees covering the position of Men’s Corps and Representative football. We are sorry to see the departure of Lt Col Alex Atherton who is leaving the Army. “Athers” served as a Trustee in the role since May 2020.

His replacement will be Lt Col Tony Frank. Tony has been involved in Service football since joining the Army in 1996 initially playing unit and Corps football in Germany as a soldier before commissioning and continuing to play in the UK.

He has been football officer for a number of units and was Massey League Secretary for a couple of seasons before handing over whilst attending staff college. Tony has also been the Chair of AGC football since 2014 and organised the Army Super Cup Final in Estonia in 2018 whilst there on operations. Still playing- although firmly in the Vets category for the Army Crusaders these days he has also recently taken over as General Manager of UK Armed Forces Football.

Chairman Brigadier Niall Stokoe OBE said, “Athers has been a true servant of The Soldiers’ Game as a player and then rising through the ranks of RLC Football to then sit on the Army FA Board, his support and enthusiasm has been unwavering and greatly appreciated.

“Personally, I say farewell to someone with whom I have played with and chatted about football over many years. So, cheers Athers, fair winds and I hope to see you pitch side soon’

“I am delighted to welcome Tony to the Army Board, I began working with him in the Massey League where we were both Chairs of our respective Corps and now am his erstwhile strike partner with Army Crusaders Vets. It is fantastic to welcome him on board.”
