Busy Inter Services Day in Aldershot
The festivities start at the Aldershot Military Stadium as the Army Men meet the Army Women in the afternoon (1430hrs). After six successive seasons as Inter Service (Williamson Trophy) holders Army Women relinquished the trophy last season to the RAF despite completing the tournament unbeaten; indeed the last time an Army Womens team were defeated in the Inter Services was in 2010.
The action then moves to National League Aldershot Town where the Army Men meet the Royal Navy (1900hrs). The Army are aiming to win the prestigious Constantinople Cup for a third successive season and confirmed victory last season with a 4-0 success versus the Navy at Yeovil Town last March. This match also “doubles up” as the final of the Southern counties Cup competition. The Army defeated Amateur FA in their semi final whilst Middlesex were beaten by the Royal Navy. Should the scored be level at full time the competition will be concluded with a penalty shoot out.
The Inter Service Vets League will also be commencing on this day. The Army and Royal Navy Vets will compete at the Aldershot Queens Avenue 3G pitch with a 1230hrs kick off.
Admission is free at all of the above matches.
