U23 v RN 2018

Under 23s open with Inter Service win

An excellent start in 2018

An excellent start in the 2018 Inter Services saw The Army Under 23 Development team defeat their Royal Navy counterparts 3-0 at HMS Temeraire, Portsmouth.

An opening half of few chances came to life three minutes before the interval. A well worked free kick saw space created in the 18 yard box allowing Cfn Sean Thomson (REME) to slot the ball home from 12 yards to give the visitors a narrow interval lead. 48 seconds into the second half the Army extended the lead with a terrific strike from Cpl Darren Humphries (AGC).  His stunning curling effort from outside the penalty box was always heading goalbounds from the moment it left his foot.

The Navy enjoyed pockets of possession without ever penetrating the Army goal whilst Capt Paul Dale’s side always looked capable of extending the lead on the break. They did just this in injury time goal when Lcpl Rob Shaw (RLC) struck the ball home from close range to confirm the victory 12 months after the Navy had won 4-2 at the Aldershot Military Stadium in the 2017 tournament.

The Army home match this season will be versus RAF at the stadium on Wednesday 21st February with a 1400hrs Kick Off. It will also be Capt Dale' s final match in charge before leaving the Army. The RAF entertain the Royal Navy at Cosford on Wednesday 14th February.
