UK North Women's Football League

The UK North Women’s Football League took place at the Military Stadium, Catterick on Wednesday 19 Oct 2016

The game involved 5 Regt RA, who were attempting to re-establish themselves after losing their first game and 6 Regt RLC, who are entering the league for the first time.  Before the game started it was clear that 6 Regt RLC meant business, they arrived in regimental tracksuits and better still were accompanied by a coach.  It must be said that it’s encouraging to report that this is the second week a team has arrived with coaching staff, fingers crossed things are changing.  Additionally it was great to see a newly qualified official straight from completing his course last week. I must note that our official, WO2 Ford, QOY did a fantastic job.

The game itself was an extremely hard fought affair.  6 RLC constantly pressed whilst producing some outstanding football, using their pace and skills down the channels.  5 RA on the other hand were happy to roll up their sleeves, soak up the pressure and counter attack.  Both teams could have justifiably won and both keepers produced fine saves.  In a game of cat and mouse 6 RLC took the lead three times but the Gunners wouldn’t be denied and came out the eventful winners 4-3.

It was pleasing to see players participating for the first time and it was equally pleasing to see everyone leave the field of play with smiles on their faces.
